What are the best flowers to grow for your first time?

I have never grown a flower before. I think just a cactus when I was younger. I would just like to get one pot (with the holes). I can find a lot of information on HOW to take care of flowers, but not which ones! I'm not to picky because I'm just starting. I'm in Michigan and it's just starting to warm up, so it seems like a good time to begin :)
